Frozen (2010)

Frozen is a thriller starring Emma Bell (best known for AMC’s The Walking Dead), Kevin Zegers, and Shawn Ashmore (best known as Iceman from the X-Men movies.) Joe (Ashmore) and Dan (Zegers) go for their anual skiing and snowboarding trip, but the dynamic is changed as Dan’s new girlfriend Parker (Bell) tags along. The trio find themselves stuck on a ski-lift, alone and suspended in the freezing air, and help is not likely to come for days.

Frozen spends its first half hour developing the relationships between the three main characters, presumably in an attempt to secure an attachment between said characters and the viewer; However, the characters are more like caricatures, adhering strictly to bland and well-recognized stereotypes. The remaining hour is then spent almost entirely on the ski slope as they try to contrive a solution to their predicament. The decisions they make in their attempts to escape freezing to death are so breathtakingly stupid that one can only laugh at them, breaking what tension that had managed to build. One might find himself yelling at the characters onscreen to try something that might actually help them survive if he actually cared enough about the characters to put forth the effort. The unintentional humor is perhaps the greatest asset this film has to offer.
